The hanging installation “We Suddenly Discover To Be Ourselves“ (60 x 300 cm, 60 x 300 cm and 50 x 300 cm) is an anti-hierarchical and anti-monumental soft sculpture that negotiates the infinitely transforming cultural body, as it refers to the concept of creolization.

With an aesthetic thickness and strong vertical shape, this work stand in relation to the human body. Made of fabric, beads, clips and modeling mass, it symbolizes carnivalistic costume materials, a representation of the tradition of resistance within the Caribbean diaspora. It becomes a trace of the resilient body, symbolizing an unfixed and fluid state of existence, of individuality and reinvention, influenced by traces of collective memory.

The wall arrangement “We Create Our Landscapes“ (650 x 400 cm) deals with deterritorialization, dislocation and cartography. A wallpaper print fuses the shapes of the island landscape (archipelago), the double helix, the mosaic, and the root network (rhizome). It is combined with two collage paintings “Archipelago Flow I and II” (30 x 30 xm) and a resin work “Rhizomatic Thought” (25 x 30 cm). The resin work platforms a real root network, symbolizing the dynamic network. The paintings include mosaic elements such as marbles, acrylic nails, beads and clips, making it an archive of the intersectional body, that reflects individuality and belonging. In both the paintings as well as the wallpaper you can find the small depictions of a historical drawing of the Haitian revolution.
