Representations of cultural hybridization, beauty ideals, and traces of belonging are being processed through prosthetic and fetishized materials.
My first solo show investigates cultural hybridization, beauty ideals, and traces of belonging.
With vibrant sculptural works, I process familiar, foreign, fetishized, and personal elements.
These are often prosthetic materials such as artificial nails, synthetic hair, body padding, silicone, but also textiles and jewelry – all elements that give bodies an identity. Using body extensions in a narrative of social performance, as a cultural, organic trace or a physical left-over, and decodes associations and hierarchies that are inscribed within these materials.
The “Lianes“ create an organic landscape in the space that carries the possibility to keep growing. Brick stones however mark the beginning of a new architecture or the ruins from another time.
The resin pieces “Woven Memories“ archive compositions of feminine body-extensions and prints, installed like blazons that protect the fluid and fragile state of being and belonging.
